Lucinda Presley - Sound Of Science

Study Guide: Grade 5

What makes sound?  Vibration! Just ask any student who has already attended this exciting three-part residency. This partnership between YA, The East Texas Symphony Orchestra, and Discovery Science Place utilizes music and hands-on-learning to teach scientific concepts. Lucinda Presley, DSP Arts/Science Director, guides this musical adventure through scientific investigations of sound, creation of musical instruments made from “found” objects such as drinking straws, and a musical “conversation” with a section of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. A final classroom visit finds students performing a variety of writing activities that reinforce the scientific learning.
