“How do they do that?” The dancers exhibit ways in which the body leaps and bends through combinations of bone, muscle, and commands that use the brain. Soul Street shows how our bodies move by using props and dance segments to demonstrate skeletal features such as hinged joints and ball-and socket joints. Tracing signals from the brain, they show us the science of dance. Combine this with a dance fantasy of how we might move if we had no bones and you have an energetic addition to your health and science curriculum.
Street dance is energetically demonstrated in its varied styles. From Brazil’s Capoiera to New York’s Break Dance and the multi-component form of hip-hop, students learn how various styles developed and evolved. In this program, Soul Street demonstrates conflict resolution through dance. Grades: 6-8, 9-12 Cost: $700 for auditorium
