 Animals Adapt
Relevant to real-world events, this series of stories reinforces science content while engaging students in fun stories. For example, “Elephant’s Child” addresses elephant adaptation and their survival of tsunamis. Other stories include the fractured fairy tale "The Horned Toad Prince" which is introduced by a true story of a horned toad who hibernated for 30 years. " How the Armadillo Got His Shield " is a folk tale that is introduced by true facts of armadillos and their defenses. This interactive program includes writing activities that reinforce the learning.

Grades: K-6  Program changes with age-level.

Stories You Wish You Knew
In this engaging program, students learn stories that aren’t in the history books….stories that their teacher never told them. Presented by professional storyteller Dru Woods, this intriguing series of stories motivates reading and instills an appreciation of storytelling. It demonstrates Ms. Woods’ 30 years’ experience in teaching speech and literature in public schools. She brings to this, and all her programs, a sense of creativity and enthusiasm.

Folk Tales from Around the World
Using such stories as “The Peddler,” professional storyteller Dru Woods takes students on a trip around the world. Students look at the ways in which a variety of cultures transmit values and morals to children through their folk tales. Ms. Woods shares with students her passion for the stories and the life skills that they teach.

Mime and Masks
Two-day residency

In this fun two-day residency, renowned storyteller Dru Woods teaches students about mime and helps them make masks that they will use in their own mime performance. On the first day, Ms. Woods leads students through the use of mime and helps them begin their masks. On the second day, Ms. Woods helps the students complete their masks and perform. Ms. Woods’ 30 years’ experience in teaching speech and theatre makes her the perfect leader for this project.

The Power of Puppetry
Two-day residency

In this two-day residency, Ms. Woods engages students in the exciting world of puppetry. Students first learn about the different kinds of puppets, puppet voices, and how puppets work. Next, groups of students select a book whose characters they will create as puppets. Students then design their own puppets and present a brief play. With 30 years’ experience in teaching speech and theatre, Ms. Woods brings to this residency a strong background and eagerness that ignites student learning.

Cost for Dru Woods programs:
$75 per hour-long performance
$250 for entire day (up to 6 programs)
